Wine for the People: Martin Ray Vineyards & Winery
We invite you to join us March 30th from 5:30-7pm for our event featuring Thirst Wine Merchants! We will be featuring wine from the Martin Ray Vineyard and Winery!
Martin Ray is one of those mythical figures of California winegrowing. From his vineyards on top of the Santa Cruz Mountains, he produced some of the greatest Cabernet, Pinot Noir, and sparkling wine of the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. Using only mountain-sourced fruit and 100% French oak barrels, Martin Ray’s wines were the most expensive California wines of their time ($13.00 a bottle in the late 50s!)
Nearly twenty years after Martin Ray’s death, Courtney Benham stumbled upon 1,500 cases of Martin Ray wine in a San Jose warehouse. Recognizing his good fortune, and his intent and drive to produce terroir driven wines, Ray’s historical significance and philosophy resonated with him. Courtney purchased the brand, and since 1990 has been committed to the production of artisanal wines worthy of the Martin Ray name.
This event will feature a reception wine as well as 6 additional wines to sip while enjoying delicious bites from Vast Kitchen. Hop into spring with an event like no other. Tickets are limited, this is an experience you won’t want to miss!
